Aspiring textile designer have transformed the landscape of fashion design, particularly when it comes to printed accessorise and swimsuits. Josie graduated with a wholly digital resort collection . Josie exhibited her work at Graduate Fashion week, New Designers and Callie lace museum in Paris.
Hi Josie! So what and where did you study?
Fashion Textiles at University for the Creative of Arts. I specialised in Printed Textiles.
What was your most memorable experience during your course?
The sense of pride at the End of Year Graduate Show. It was so lovely to see everyone’s hard work paid off and the warm reception I got from the crowd.
Which piece out of all your work best represents you as a designer?
My graduate collection was a luxury swimwear collection with printed accessories and bags . I am fascinated by all the new technologies available to the design industry and how we use them. My collection was wholly digital and it’s key feature was the use of photoshop to merge and enhance mostly reptile skin and architecture outline with abstract painting at the background to create unique prints.
What inspires your work?
Anything and everything! I see things on the street and can be inspired to create beautiful prints.
Who is your biggest design influence?
Stella McCartney, Peter Pillotto, Basso and Brooke and Mary Katrantzou for their work with entirely digital print.
How would you describe your design style?
Textured with earthy tone colours or warm jewelled rich colours.
Have you worked with any clients or on any previous projects?
I had the privilege of working as an intern at Jonathan Saunders assisting with 2012 spring summer collection.Also had the priviledge of working with Keeler Gordon known for creating original textile and design concepts for the fashion industry.Specialising in womenswear, junior, swim and reworked vintage prints and embroidery concepts. Currently assisting Reiss menswear design team.
What are you up to now?
Currently working full-time at Reiss which I have being there for 3yrs whilst trying to find a textile job ! It’s my dream to work for one of my favourite designers but aim to establish my own label.
What are your hopes for your future career?
To establish my fashion house.
